With his soft and wise voice, his unrelenting gaze and deep knowledge of the Algiers/ Polisario operating mode, Moustapha Salma Ould Sidi Mouloud, the police inspector general of the guerrilla movement, who now supports the Moroccan autonomy plan for the Sahara has succeeded in splitting the edifice built by the Algerian military security in Tindouf.
In fact, since the Smara press conference, where Salma Ould Sidi Mouloud said that he would now defend the Moroccan initiative to resolve the conflict, the strategists of the Algerian secret services and also the Polisario leadership do not know how to react. According to reliable sources close to the Polisario Secretary General Mohamed Abdelaziz, the option that Salma undergoes an “unfortunate accident” was mentioned by the Algerian colonel in charge of security in the camps, but this option was rejected for fear to see the powerful tribe of R’guibate furiously revolting as was the case in 1989. An event which had accelerated the return of the Polisario founding executives, including Mohammed Ali Admi (alias Omar Hadrami).
It must be said that the camps are currently on the verge of social explosion, with more than 1.400 people having returned to Morocco since the beginning of 2010, roughly as much as in the last fifteen years.
The second option that Algiers appears to adopt was that the Polisario would imprison Moustapha Salma Ould Sidi Mouloud as a means of escape, and especially try to initiate dialogue with the chief of the rebel police. However, it is not sure that this strategy would work, as the irascible Sahrawi has already indicated that his choice was “irreversible”.
