Opponents of Polisario Chief may be sentenced to death penalty

Three people opposing the Secretary General of the Polisario Frente, Mohammed Abdelaziz, would be court-martialled by the revolutionary movement at the end of this month, and this for interfering with the movement security, according to reliable sources. Arrested last December, Balouh Ahmed Hamou, Ahmed Salem Chibani Hamou as well as Mohamed Salek Ould Gueya have publicly protested against the misappropriation of international humanitarian aid intended for the Sahrawi populations living in the Tindouf Camps, South-East of Algeria. This situation enlightens the deep succession crisis that the Guerilla Polisario movement is undergoing as Mohammed Abdelaziz is willing to transmit the position to his wife, Khadija Hamdi, while the movement old guard is torn between many candidates. Democratic practices inside the camps are not applied and as  the Front leader growing old,he is less willing to accept  questioning of his authority, especially during what is considered by many observers to be his last mandate. Sent from Algiers to analyze the situation of the three political prisoners,

a colonel from the  DRS (the Algerian Military Security supervising the Polisario Front), had a long discussion with the  prisoners and tried to make them sign a letter where they would admit to being  “Moroccan agents”. In front of their firm refusal to sign such document, a date was fixed for the trial…
